Prevent Strategy

As part of Brooklands ongoing safeguarding and child protection duties, we are fully behind the government’s Prevent Strategy. As a school we recognise that safeguarding against radicalisation is no different from safeguarding against any other vulnerability.

From 1 July 2015, all schools have been subject to a duty under section 26 of the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015, in the exercise of their functions, to have “due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism”. This duty is known as the Prevent Duty for Schools.

At Brooklands, we build pupils’ resilience to radicalisation enabling our pupils to challenge extremist views. All staff are expected to uphold and promote the fundamental principles of British values, including democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect, and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs. In formulating this statement the Governing Board have taken account of the guidance from the Department for Education (DfE) who have called for all public bodies to make explicit their preventative measures to minimise the threat of extremism in their setting.
